The "Green Is Gold" project is a pioneering initiative aimed at revolutionizing waste management practices in Uganda. By purchasing waste from individuals, we aim to incentivize responsible waste disposal and empower communities to actively engage in waste management efforts.

Hamza Kibirige, a 3-year-old boy, is suffering from hydronephrosis, a kidney complication. His poor peasant family couldn't afford proper medical care, resulting in severe symptoms like frequent fever, vomiting, pain during urination, and a constant need to urinate. Thanks to the support of the African Soul Initiative, Hamza received a medical checkup that diagnosed his condition. The doctors recommended a urinary catheterization procedure to relieve his pain and pressure. The situation reached this point due to the delayed medical attention. However, Hamza's family can't afford the necessary medical procedures due to their extreme poverty.

The African Soul Initiative is embarking on the One Million Trees Project, a critical venture aimed at vastly increasing our tree seedling production capabilities. This project is a cornerstone of our Green Community Program, which is dedicated to planting over one million trees to mitigate the adverse effects of deforestation and promote sustainable living within our community. By enhancing our nursery bed infrastructure, we aim to ensure a consistent, high-quality supply of seedlings, which are essential for our ambitious reforestation goals.

This project is intended to create awareness within communities about the need for environmental conservation and protection. Children at schools will be involved and mainly targeted in our conservation and protection campaigns for they represent our future and the existence of these trees and a safe conserved environment depends on them. We will encourage planting of fruit trees because they will not only play an environment role but also serve the purpose of providing fruits for the school community which are a vital source of vitamins for the children.

Under this project, we shall give fruit tree seedlings to different schools for planting with the aim of promoting environmental conservation and protection. The world today is faced with a problem of climatic change which has in the recent times resulted into longer droughts and a high increase of carbon dioxide gases in the atmosphere. Trees vegetation that would have helped in removing these dangerous toxic gases are being cut for human use. Most schools in Uganda depend on wood as a major source of fuel while others use charcoal produced from cut down burnt trees. As a result of population increase, there has been a growth in the number of schools and students which has resulted into massive cutting of trees to be used as fuel in cooking. Sighting an example of most rural schools, it’s a school requirement for every student to bring a bunch of wood every term to assist the school reduce on the expenditures made on the purchase of wood. Therefore, the commercial use of these trees within communities today has accelerated the rate at which deforestation is taking place. This project will encourage the planting of more trees within communities as well as sensitizing many about the need for environmental protection and conservation. The project will seek to plant over 1,000,000 trees with emphasis on fruit trees in schools within Uganda.

In the heart of rural Uganda, a silent storm rages, shattering the dreams of innocent souls. Teenage pregnancy, a formidable adversary, is casting its dark shadow over communities with an intensity that cannot be ignored. Startling statistics, a reflection of untold struggles, reveal that a staggering 25% of Ugandan teenagers bear the weight of motherhood before the age of 18. This harsh reality, a tempest of shattered dreams, paints a bleak picture for a generation in need of hope.

The impact is profound, etching scars on young lives that deserve so much more. Education, a beacon of opportunity, is sacrificed on the altar of early pregnancy. The youthful energy that should be nurtured through learning is instead channeled into motherhood, truncating aspirations and dimming potential. As the echoes of schoolyard laughter fade, these young mothers navigate the uncharted waters of motherhood, often without the necessary support or resources.

And then, as the world grappled with the grip of COVID-19, the struggle intensified, particularly in Buikwe district. Schools shuttered, businesses closed, and families teetered on the precipice of poverty. Parental control weakened, leaving a void that the darkness of exploitation and abuse quickly filled. Vulnerable teenage girls, desperate for survival, found themselves ensnared in a cycle of labor that offered neither dignity nor respite. The grim specter of STIs, mental anguish, and premature marriages loomed ever larger.

Yet amidst this storm, a beacon of hope emerges. African Soul Initiative steps forward with unwavering determination, refusing to let despair dictate the narrative. Our project, a testament to resilience, focuses on the brave teenage girls of Buikwe district, ravaged by the pandemic's aftermath. We envision safe harbors of empowerment in the form of vocational and entrepreneurial centers, where skills are honed, confidence is restored, and self-esteem flourishes.

Our aspiration is grand, our purpose unyielding - to nurture a generation of leaders who rise against the odds, who reclaim their health and futures with unrelenting vigor. A chorus of awareness takes root, rallying against the perils of early teenage pregnancy, and igniting conversations that transcend the confines of the project. Our journey is also one of addressing critical health concerns, ensuring teenage menstrual hygiene and safeguarding sexual reproductive well-being.

In this voyage of transformation, we draw strength from the conviction that every young girl, despite her challenges, has a right to dream, to aspire, and to shape her own destiny. The path is arduous, but with the collective support of communities and advocates, we stand unflinching in our commitment to spark enduring change. As the winds of change gather momentum, we venture forth, united in the pursuit of a brighter, more empowered future.

In Ugandan schools today, most of the young girls cannot afford to buy the current disposable sanitary pads that are available on the market. This project is aimed at making and distributing reusable sanitary pads to adolescent girls to help them stay in school. This project will also train beneficiaries to make reusable sanitary pads with the available raw materials in their communities.

The consistent failure of young girls to afford to buy the available sanitary pads on the market has made them use unhygienic materials, leading to uncertain infections. Failure to get pads keeps them away from school for days every month and this has made many to make wrong decisions such as early sex, which leads to unwanted pregnancies and early marriages as well.

The project will set up a production unit that will train beneficiaries and produce reusable sanitary pads to maintain adolescent girls in school. The project will also teach all the proper menstrual hygiene procedures to the beneficiaries. This project will help distribute reusable sanitary pads for over 9,000 adolescent girls in schools every year. One pack of reusable pads can be used throughout the year.

This project is intended to support community members through training in computer literacy. We are living in an era of information technology, where everything is computerized. Many of the people in our communities have been left behind due to lack of computer knowledge. As a result, many have found difficulties while at work, leading to layoffs or unemployment. Furthermore, many have been victims of fraud and manipulated due to various challenges faced while operating computerized gadgets.

This project will set up a computer center that will help in training of all beneficiaries within the communities. This computer center will be stocked with modern computers and other related machines that constitute a modern day today secretarial bureau to help fully train beneficiaries and make them computer-literate to compete in this rapid changing world. The project intends to enroll and train up to 10000 beneficiaries within the next 4 years.
