On 13th April 2023, African Soul Initiative was in Buikwe district at Vuluga Umea primary school in an activity that involved sensitising the pupils about environmental conservation and protection through tree planting. They were mainly fruit trees that were planted to not only conserve the environment but also provide fruits to the children in the near future.

Objectives 

The activity's major aim was to sensitive the children about environmental conservation and protection through planting of trees. They were taught about the dangers of deforestation such as prolonged droughts. Grooming the young ones into responsible citizens who care about their environment. 

Observation 

Throughout the activity, the children had a little knowledge about tree planting through what they were being taught in school. The activity provided a practical lesson whereby they had the opportunity to plant the fruit trees which were entrusted to them to care for with the help of their teachers.

Most of the children were passionate about tree planting having planted some at home. They were encouraged to carry on with the practice so as to protect the environment.

Impact

The children will always look out to planting more trees because they know that in the near future they'll have fruits at their disposal. With this, more trees will be planted thus saving the environment. 

Having known the dangers of deforestation, they will spread word about it and to discourage this practice so as to conserve the environment.

Conclusion 

With the encouragement the pupils received and the opportunity given to plant the fruit trees, this activity brought awareness that they too can plant trees and bring about a change in their environment.
