REPORT ON CRAFT MAKING PROGRAM 2021

Introduction

The Craft Making Program was initiated in April 2021 in response to the economic challenges and youth idleness exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic within our community. This report outlines the goals, objectives, outcomes, and impact of the program, which aimed to empower youth through skill development in craft making.

Goals & Objectives of the Program

Main Goal of the Program: The main goal of the Craft Making Program was to empower and skill young girls in the community, providing them with productive activities to avoid idleness and associated social problems.

Specific Objectives of the Program:

a)    To train young girls in craft making skills, including basket weaving and necklace crafting.

b)   To provide income-generating opportunities for participants through craft sales.

c)    To mitigate social challenges such as early pregnancies, early marriages, and substance abuse among youth through engagement in constructive activities.

Program Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries of the Craft Making Program were young girls (youths) from the community who enrolled in the program to acquire skills and earn income. These girls were identified as being at risk of idleness and associated social problems due to the economic challenges brought about by the pandemic.

Outcomes of the Activity

The Craft Making Program yielded several positive outcomes:

  • Empowerment of participants with valuable craft making skills.
  • Generation of income for dedicated and hardworking participants through craft sales.
  • Mitigation of social problems such as early pregnancies and substance abuse by providing constructive engagement for youth.
  • Diversification of craft products including baskets and necklaces to cater to varying market preferences.

Program Sources of Funding

The Craft Making Program was primarily funded through community support and volunteer trainers who provided their expertise voluntarily. However, ongoing funding is required to address challenges such as the procurement of fibers for consistent production.

Program Challenges

The main challenge faced by the program is the lack of a stable market for craft products, which impacts the sustainability of income generation for participants. Additionally, funding constraints hinder consistent production due to the need to procure materials.

Long-term Impact and Conclusion

In the long term, the Craft Making Program aims to create sustainable income-generating opportunities for young girls, thereby contributing to poverty alleviation and social stability within the community. By addressing youth idleness and associated social challenges, the program plays a critical role in empowering individuals and fostering community resilience.

Conclusion

The Craft Making Program has demonstrated the potential to positively impact the lives of young girls by equipping them with skills and opportunities for economic empowerment. Moving forward, efforts to address market challenges and secure consistent funding will be crucial for sustaining the program's impact and fostering long-term socio-economic development within our community. The program remains committed to promoting skill development, entrepreneurship, and social well-being through craft making activities.
